Yes. The consultation, examination, and 3D CT scan (when clinically warranted) are at no cost. There's no obligation to schedule treatment that day — you'll leave with a written treatment plan and can take your time deciding.
What's the difference between a prosthodontist and a regular dentist?
A prosthodontist is a dental specialist with 3+ years of additional training beyond dental school, focused specifically on tooth replacement — implants, dentures, bridges, and full-mouth reconstruction. General dentists do broad dentistry; prosthodontists specialize in this exact area. For complex cases, that specialization matters.
I was told I have too much bone loss for implants. Can you help?
Often yes. Bone loss doesn't automatically rule out implants — it means you need expert evaluation. Depending on the situation, options may include grafting, alternative prosthetic approaches, or in some cases implants without grafting. We'll review your case honestly and tell you what's possible.
Do you accept insurance?
Yes. We work with most major dental insurance carriers, file claims, and help you maximize benefits. During consultation we'll review your coverage and provide an honest estimate of out-of-pocket costs.
What if implants aren't right for me?
If implants aren't the right fit, we'll tell you. Depending on your situation, alternatives may include bridges, dentures, partial prosthetics, or hybrid solutions. Our job is to recommend the right treatment for you — not the most expensive option.

What's actually included in the free consultation?
A comprehensive evaluation with Dr. Asam: medical & dental history review, oral exam, review of any prior imaging you bring (or fresh imaging including a 3D CBCT scan when clinically warranted), discussion of your goals, and a written treatment plan you take home. No billing to your insurance for the consultation itself.
How long does the consultation take?
Plan for 60–90 minutes. That covers intake, examination, imaging review, and an unhurried discussion of your options. Complex cases sometimes run a little longer — we'd rather take the time than rush.
Do I have to commit to treatment at the consultation?
No. The consult is informational. You leave with a written treatment plan and a clear understanding of your options. You decide on your own time. No pressure, no same-day-only pricing, no upsell.
What if I don't have dental insurance — or my insurance doesn't cover much?
The consultation itself is free regardless of insurance status. For treatment, PDIS accepts Hawaii Dental Service (HDS), HMSA, and most major PPO plans, and offers payment plan options for patients without coverage or with significant out-of-pocket. Dr. Asam will walk you through realistic cost ranges and financing options at the consult.
I was told I'm "not a candidate" for implants somewhere else. Is it worth coming in?
Often yes. Patients told "no" by a general dentist or single-procedure implant center frequently turn out to have options once a Prosthodontist evaluates the case with proper 3D imaging. Specialty training + a CBCT scan reveals approaches a 2D x-ray and visual exam miss. A second opinion is worth the consultation.
How soon can I get an appointment?
