Dr. Jmi Lilinoe Bassett Asam, DMD, is an American Dental Association recognized Prosthodontist and the founder of Pacific Dental & Implant Solutions. Born and raised in Kahalu‘u, O‘ahu, and a proud graduate of Kamehameha Schools Kapālama. She went on to graduate summa cum laude from Creighton University with a double major in Physics and Mathematics. She earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine at Harvard School of Dental Medicine — graduating cum laude as the first female Native Hawaiian to do so. She then completed her three-year specialty residency in Advanced Prosthodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. In 2008, she became the first female Prosthodontist hired by ClearChoice Dental Implant Center. She has spent the last 17 years restoring smiles for patients with missing and failing teeth, and complex full-mouth dental conditions.
Prosthodontics is one of the seven dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association — the branch focused on diagnosing, planning, and rebuilding what general dentistry leaves untouched. Education & Training
Dr. Asam’s academic path moved from Kamehameha Schools Kapālama to Creighton University — where she earned summa cum laude degrees in Physics and Mathematics — and then to Harvard School of Dental Medicine, where she earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) cum laude as the first female Native Hawaiian to graduate at that level.
After Harvard, she completed a three-year residency in Advanced Prosthodontics at the University of Illinois at Chicago, focused on implant dentistry, complex restorative care, and full-mouth rehabilitation. Prosthodontics is one of the seven dental specialties recognized by the American Dental Association — three additional years of focused training beyond dental school.
Clinical Experience
Before founding Pacific Dental & Implant Solutions in 2009, Dr. Asam practiced as a Prosthodontist at ClearChoice Dental Implant Center in Chicago — where, in 2008, she became the first female Prosthodontist the national network hired. There she performed hundreds of full-arch implant reconstructions for patients who had often been told elsewhere they were out of options.
Back home in Hawai‘i, she has continued that focus — building a practice known for taking on the cases other dentists turn away: severe bone loss, failed previous work, and patients told they have to live with ill-fitting dentures forever. Many of her patients are referrals — from other patients, and from other dentists.
