Dental Implant Second Opinion by an Implant Focused Prosthodontist

Already been quoted somewhere else? Bring your treatment plan, your imaging, and your questions. Dr. Jmi Asam is an Implant Focused Prosthodontist (ADA-recognized specialty in prosthodontics) offering an independent evaluation — or, if implants aren't the right answer for you, an honest path to the alternatives that are.

  • Free 30–45 minute consultation with the doctor (not a sales rep)
  • Bring existing X-rays, CT scans, and treatment plans — we'll review them with you
  • Free 3D CT scan if additional imaging is needed
  • Independent prosthodontist's evaluation — we have no incentive to upsell you
  • If implants aren't ideal for your case, we'll show you what is

Sometimes the second opinion confirms the first. Sometimes it changes everything. Sometimes the right answer isn't implants at all. Either way, you'll be making your decision with more information.

When a Second Opinion Helps

You Should Get a Second Opinion If…

  • You were told you need full-arch extraction and aren't sure if all those teeth need to come out
  • You were quoted All-on-4 / All-on-X and want to understand the alternatives first
  • You were told you can't get implants because of bone loss
  • The treatment plan you received feels rushed or pressured
  • You're seeing the doctor for the first time at the surgery itself
  • The provider is a chain or franchise and you'd like an independent specialist's view
  • You have implants that have failed or are causing problems
  • Something just doesn't feel right and you want a clinical sanity check

For elective procedures of this magnitude, a second opinion is a normal part of being an informed patient. Reputable providers expect it — and welcome it. We do.

If Implants Aren't Right For You

Sometimes the Honest Answer Is “Not Implants”

If your case isn't a good fit for implants — whether because of bone, gum health, medical conditions, timing, or budget — we'll tell you. And we'll show you the alternatives that actually do fit. As a prosthodontist, the full restorative menu is our specialty, not just one procedure.

Alternative

Fixed Bridge

Replace one or several missing teeth using neighboring teeth as anchors. Often the right answer when implants aren't ideal — durable, fixed in place, looks and functions like natural teeth.

Alternative

Partial Denture

Removable prosthetic for replacing several teeth in one arch. Modern partials are far more comfortable and natural-looking than older designs — and a great fit for many patients who aren't surgical candidates.

Alternative

Full Denture

For full-arch tooth loss when implants aren't viable. A well-designed conventional denture — built by a prosthodontist — can restore function, aesthetics, and confidence.

Hybrid

Implant-Supported Denture

For some patients with limited bone, even a few implants can stabilize a denture dramatically. Less surgical complexity than full-arch fixed implants, with much better function than conventional dentures.

Phased

Treat the Underlying Issue First

Sometimes “not yet” is the right answer. Periodontal treatment, infection control, or bite stabilization may need to come before any implant or restoration plan can succeed long-term.

Comprehensive

Multi-Procedure Coordinated Plan

If you have multiple stacked issues — not just missing teeth but failing crowns, bite problems, and worn teeth — a coordinated plan combining several restorations is often the right path.

What We Look At

How a Specialist Evaluates Your Plan

A second opinion isn't just a fresh estimate — it's a clinical review by a doctor with different training and a different point of view.

Diagnosis

Are the teeth recommended for extraction truly hopeless? What's the actual condition of the bone and gums? We re-evaluate from the ground up.

Number & Position of Implants

Is the implant count appropriate for your bite, bone, and prosthetic plan? Are the proposed positions optimal for long-term function?

Prosthetic Plan

Fixed vs. removable. Zirconia vs. acrylic hybrid. Cement vs. screw retained. The material and design choices have decade-long consequences.

Alternatives Considered

Were bridges, partials, and dentures evaluated and ruled out for clinical reasons — or just not offered? A specialist evaluates the full menu, not one procedure.

Sequencing

Sometimes the right answer is to address infection, periodontal disease, or bite issues before implants. Has the plan accounted for that?

Long-Term Maintenance

How will this be cleaned and maintained for the next 20–30 years? Some plans look great on day one but are difficult to maintain long-term.

The Process

What to Bring to Your Second Opinion

The more information we have, the better the review. Don't worry if you don't have everything — we can re-image as needed.

1

Treatment Plan

The written plan from the other provider, if you have it. Even a verbal summary helps.

2

Imaging

Any X-rays, panoramic images, or CT scans you've had taken — usually available on a CD or via online portal.

3

Your Questions

What concerned you about the first plan? What do you want clarified? Write them down beforehand.

4

Your Goals

What do you want the end result to look and feel like? What's most important to you long-term?

FAQ

Common Questions About Second Opinions

What if implants aren't the right answer for my case?

If implants aren't ideal for your situation, we'll tell you and walk through what is. Depending on your case, the right answer might be a fixed bridge, a partial denture, a full denture, or a hybrid solution. A prosthodontist's job is to find the restoration that actually fits your mouth, your timeline, and your budget — not to push you toward the most expensive procedure.

Will the other provider know I got a second opinion?

Only if you tell them. Your second opinion is between you and us. We don't contact the other office. Many patients do choose to share the alternative plan with their original provider as part of their decision-making — that's up to you.

What if your plan is the same as the first one?

That's a good outcome — you'll be moving forward with confirmed confidence. We'll tell you that directly and honestly. We have no incentive to invent disagreements just to win business.

What if your plan is very different?

We'll explain exactly why, in clinical terms. You can take both plans home, compare them, ask questions, and decide what makes sense to you. There's no pressure to switch providers — the consultation here is genuinely free.

I was told I have too much bone loss for implants. Can you help?

Often yes — but not always with implants. In some cases, implants with bone grafting are still possible. In other cases, a fixed bridge or partial denture is actually the better long-term answer for your specific situation. We'll review your imaging, give you an honest read on what's possible, and recommend the option that genuinely fits — not just the one that costs the most.

Do I need to bring my X-rays?

If you have them, yes — bring them on a CD, USB, or via your patient portal. If you don't, we can take new imaging during the consultation. CBCT 3D scans are included free when clinically warranted.

Is the second opinion really free?

Yes. The consultation, examination, plan review, and 3D CT scan (when clinically warranted) are at no cost. There's no obligation to schedule treatment with us — you'll leave with a written treatment plan and can take your time deciding.

What if I've already paid a deposit at the other office?

That's a separate question to take up with that office — deposit refund policies vary. The second opinion itself is independent. Many patients do a second opinion specifically because they're hesitating before paying or starting treatment.

Do you accept the same insurance?

We work with most major dental insurance carriers including HDS, HMSA, MetLife, Cigna, Aetna, GEHA, and others. We file claims and help you maximize benefits. We'll review your coverage at consultation.
